The world lost a Hollywood legend last week. Ms Elizabeth Taylor passed away on 23 March 2011, aged 79. The late Elizabeth Taylor was a talented actress (with 5 Best Actress Oscar nominations and 2 wins), a devoted HIV/AIDS activist, and a passionate, devoted lover ("I've only slept with men I've been married to. How many women can make that claim?") Besides her talents and personality, many of us will undoubtedly also remember Ms Taylor for her exquisite beauty. Her piercing blue eyes and lush eyelashes are legendary. But what most people do not know, was that Elizabeth Taylor suffered from Distichiasis, a rare eyelash disorder characterised by abnormal growth of eyelashes.
While distichiasis may result in corneal irritation and ulcers (we do not know if it gave Ms Taylor any health problems), it gave her a double row of eye-lashes, making them look incredibly lush, feminine, and to-die-for.
We are much more fortunate these days. Instead of praying for an eyelash disorder (distichiasis can be congenital of acquired) with its associated problems, we can opt for FDA-approved length lengthener Latisse for longer, thicker lashes. I mean, just look at Brooke Shield's eye lashes after she used Latisse. Aren't they simply amazing?
